Yerba mate:

Yerba Maté is often consumed as a stimulant drink. It helps to eliminate fatigue, stimulating metal and physical activity, and due to its active chemical Xanthine’s effect on the central nervous system, it is used to stimulate mental energy as well. [Saldana MD, Zetzl C, Mohamed RS, Brunner G. Extraction of methylxanthines from guarana seeds, mate leaves, and cocoa beans using supercritical carbon dioxide and ethanol. J Agric Food Chem. 2002 Aug 14; 50(17): 4820-6.]

Black, green, and white teas:

Tea leaves, especially green and white, are rich in catechin polyphenols. An article in New Scientist (20 March 2004 issue) magazine mentions that numerous studies suggest that green tea protects against a range of cancers, including lung, prostate and breast cancer. The reason cited is the antioxidant epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). EGCG is a powerful antioxidant. Besides inhibiting the growth of cancer cells, it has been shown to affect these cells without harming healthy tissue.

Pu’erh tea:

Drinking pu-erh tea is purported to reduce blood cholesterol. This belief has been backed up by scientific studies not only demonstrating experimental results of lowered LDL cholesterol in rats, but discovering specific mechanisms through which chemicals in Pu-erh tea inhibit the synthesis of cholesterol. [ Chi-Hua Lua, Lucy Sun Hwang "Polyphenol contents of Pu-Erh teas and their abilities to inhibit cholesterol biosynthesis in Hep G2 cell line", Food Chemistry, Vol. 111, No. 1, (Nov. 1, 2008), pp. 67-71.] Pu-erh tea has been shown to have antimutagenic and antimicrobial properties as well. [She-Ching Wu, Gow-Chin Yen, Bor-Sen Wang, Chih-Kwang Chiu, Wen-Jye Yen, Lee-Wen Chang, Pin-Der Duh, "Antimutagenic and antimicrobial activities of pu-erh tea", LWT - Food Science and Technology, Vol. 40, No. 3, (Apr. 2007), pp. 506-512.] It is also widely used in Chinese cultures to counteract the unpleasant effects of heavy alcohol consumption. In traditional Chinese medicine, the tea is used to invigorate the spleen.

Eleuthero Root (formerly known as Siberian Ginseng):

E. senticosus is an adaptogen that has a wide range of health benefits attributed to its use. Taking the herb is believed to boost the body’s capacity to handle physical stresses ranging from heat exposure to extreme exertion. Supporters of E. senticosus as a medicinal herb also claim that it is immunogenic, anti-inflammatory and chemoprotective. [Winston, David & Maimes, Steven. “Adaptogens: Herbs for Strength, Stamina, and Stress Relief,” Healing Arts Press, 2007 and Chen JK, Chen TT. Chinese Medical Herbology and Pharmacology, Art of Medicine Press, City of Industry, CA 2004]. It's also thought to be an aphrodisiac and boost stamina in traditional Chinese medicine.

I tried this tea a while back & loved it! I couldn't get it off my mind, it was so good. I love Chai teas & this definitly compares to those. If you like chai this tea will appeal to you.—Bebe
I’m addicted to the Climber’s High blend. I love the way it tastes, smells and makes me feel. I couldn’t start my morning without a cup or two. —Alreen Haeggquist
I sincerely mean it when i say this is one of the best blends here. I use it frequently on climbing trips in my tea tumbler and hot in the morning to get my day going and to keep it going through an exhausting climb—Rex
Another great morning tea by The Tea Spot! This tea is packed full of flavor. It smells and tastes wonderful. It definitely benefits from sugar and cream, but it doesn't need it. —Mary
This is my absolute favorite, I drink it hot, cold and sometimes with a little truvia and milk or cream. The first loose leaf ever purchased from the tea spot, and now I buy in bulk every order!!! —Lonnie
I got this in a gift pack a few years ago for my birthday, and wow did it change my mornings! It has this amazing earthy aroma and smooth rich texture. I love it so much its replaced my morning cup of coffee!—Ty A
Great pick me up for the morning. Tastes great!—Raven
I have been looking for an extra high caffeine tea, and this definitely hits the mark. It tastes like chai, but with a blend of green tea, to balance out how bold black teas can be (especially if you never really take the leaves out, like I do). This is my go to choice for morning kicks and afternoon pick-me-ups, and it keeps me away from the office coffee pot!—Kathryn
Thursday morning and I discovered my Climbers High supply was down to one more batch of my favorite Iced tea.I rushed to the computer and ordered more w/free shipping. The mail lady was just here the following Saturday.FASTEST shipping in the history of the world.I'm dancing as I type this!! —Doogan
If you love a robust cup of energy in the morning, this is for you. I've never loved teas plain before, but the Tea Spot is hitting it out of the park, every time. I am constantly surprised by the complexity of flavors-but also how I can identify almost every single one. This tea is no exception. It is such a unique and invigorating tea-I think it would also be convenient to get it in sachets, so I can have it on the go!—Joy
I'm not a fan of chai teas, but this came with a starter set I had ordered. Its flavor is great, but not for me. —Monica
I was looking for a tea to replace the caffeine and energy coffee provides to me each morning, this tea is just it! I brew a cup of this at my desk as I'm scrolling through my emails at work. It's aroma is amazing (I always get compliments from coworkers) and it tastes similar to chai tea. If you're looking for a morning pick-me up.. this tea is for you!—Brenda
great tea —allie
I really like this tea. I reach for bolder breakfast first but I don't know why. I love chai, I love all the different teas and spices that make this tea. Almost anything with saffron is amazing, add pu'erh and ginger among its other ingredients and you can't go wrong. One of my favorites, and worth sampling at the least.—Elle
Interesting that some think the flavor to be too strong. I actually prefer more spice (like Red Hot Chai). I purchased this for mornings when I feel like a little more flavor than plain Yerba Mate, which is my go-to tea now for mornings. Climbers High smells wonderful. —Janice
Climber's High is the perfect name for this tea. The buzz it delivers is somewhat of a high. My body feels perfectly energized when I drink it. On that note, it isn't my favorite tea in terms of flavor. It's not bad at all, it's just that its aromatics do more for me than the actual flavor, which is surprisingly light yet earthy.—Abby
This is my favorite weekday starter tea. This tea let me give up coffee. Has just enough spice to replace my flavored coffee creamers but not so over powering that I can't taste my breakfast. If you like Chai or what to try it this is a good place to start. The Chai adds to this complex flavor without dominating. —Weekday Starter
I ordered the sample just to try it out... what a huge mistake! I Should have ordered a pound!!! This tea was so amazing the sample didn't even last 24 hours :) Huge hit at the office! Has a nice flavor and almost nutmeggy smell :) SO GOOD!!!!—Sarah
I had tried a yerba mate just plain and it was something I dreaded to drink daily until I found this replacement. With all the same benefits but with a much more pleasant taste that I look forward to drinking each time—hle
I ordered a sample of this tea. As a recovering coffee drinker I appreciate the buzz associated with this tea. The flavor is much lighter than I expected given the ingredient list, but certainly enjoyable. I will be trying a sample of the Yerba Mate as well before deciding which to order in bulk. —Andrew
I actually use this tea to give me a kick before I head to the climbing gym in the winter. I love the tea and it gives me the boost I need to traverse the ceiling.—Steve
Too light in flavor to be chai for me. Smells good. —A little Light
I LOVE this tea! The taste and smell could not be better, and the pick me up is perfect for a non-coffee drinker. The flavor is so good, but I do not know how to describe it, just wonderful! —Liz
This is my daily go-to when I need some serious energy. It gives me a much needed second wind when I need it most - usually at the 2pm lull. And oh so tasty!!—Jujubean
My entire experience with the company has been fabulous. Before they shipped my order a very nice lady called to confirm my order as my address wasn't recognized. I received my order promptly. The tea itself has wonderful quality. It is flavorful, unique, and excellent. The Climber's High has a nice complex mix of flavors and spices. I also ordered the Boulder Blues which is a nice refreshing tea with all the benefits green tea has to offer. I was sent a sample of the oolong coconut which had a light tasty flavor and satisfied my sweet tooth. I enjoy supporting local companies and this is one I will continue to order from in the future and can't wait to try all their teas.—Nicole
This is probably my favorite black tea of all time. It has a biting, but complex flavor and is sure to perk you up on even the slowest days! It is such an interesting mix of tastes that it can be suitable on almost any day for any mood (except quiet, fruity moods). Highly recommended!—Lauren F :)
Yerba mate is not one of my favorites, but I tried this tea anyway based on the chocolate chip in the photo. My error. By itself, this tea was a disappointment. However, I blended it half and half with Bolder Breakfast, which produced a wonderful tea! A touch of cream to satisfy the English side of me and WOW! I'm a happy camper!—Carole H.
Incredible mix. I don't normally like licorice, but with the blend of teas and ginger and cinnamon, it creates a perfect spicy flavor. It's a real pick me up!—Sarah
It would be worth the price if all you did was smell it. But don't stop there....Taste it! Hot, cold, beforw work, after work, this is one of my fave teas.—Cay
Waaay too spicy! Doesn't even taste like tea. If it was more subtle, I could have stomached it, but it has too much ginger and licorice. I still can't get the stink out of my brewer - may have to throw it away. Bummer.—Erin
