Reuse. Recycle.... and Refill!

Loose tea already has an environmental advantage over tea bags with simple reduction in packaging (which often includes bags, string, tags, staples, box, inner wax paper wrapping, outer plastic wrapping, etc.). Nigel Melican's thorough Carbon Footprint analysis presented at World Tea Expo 2008 shows the average carbon footprint of a cup of loose tea vs. the a cup of bagged tea results in 20 times lower carbon emissions in the atmosphere. So you're already heading in the right direction by choosing to drink loose leaf tea instead of bags. Since packaging does have a substantial effect on a product's Carbon Footprint as a whole, here are additional points to boost the eco-friendly nature of our teas.

The Tea Spot - green tea tips

Reuse.

Empty tea tins can be used for any number of things around your home or at the office. Empty tins make excellent desk top holders for pencils, pens, and scissors. They are also great for holding spare change, or to organize stray nuts, bolts, nails, and screws. Alternatively, you can refill them with bulk herbs, spices, nuts, or nearly any bulk foods. Some of our customers have used them for holding mini flower arrangements and even used the tin to make a travel candle with a lid.

Recycle.

If you don't re-use your empty tin for any of the above mentioned functions, just recycle it. Our tea tins, including the inner lid and top, are 100% recyclable!

Refill!

Since our loose tea selection includes over 40 bulk tea options, refilling your tins can be very cost effective as well as eco-friendly. Most of our teas are available in a combination of 2oz, 4oz, 8oz or 1lb bulk bags. The 2-3 oz bulk bag size is the perfect amount of tea to refill your empty Tea Spot tins. Alternatively, all of our bulk teas come in a resealable foil pouch that is also great for storing tea. If you select a larger sized bulk tea, you can refill the tins as you go or just use it straight from the bulk bag.
