Tasting Notes:
Our Matcha Green Tea is unique in that it’s made from Shizuoka green tea. Shizuoka is a major tea producing region of Japan, known for its incredible sencha teas. Our matcha tea is also uniquely processed using the SHIMA process (Super Heating In Moisture Atmosphere), a special steaming treatment that uses much higher temperatures than the traditional steaming method, before it is ground into a fine green tea powder.
This high temperature method of curing the leaves makes our matcha tea powder resilient to heat and greatly increases its ability to maintain fresh color, taste, aroma, and quality. Thus, our matcha powder will maintain its quality for a longer period of time than other matcha teas, making it more versatile in meeting your needs.
Our matcha is perfect for traditional matcha tea preparation, as done in the Japanese tea ceremony, and can also be added to a water bottle and shaken with cold water for cold tea brewing. It is also great as an ingredient in popular beverages such as a green tea latte or green tea smoothie as well as confections, green tea ice cream, and other foods. It will become a staple in your kitchen at such a great price.

Green tea is rich in powerful antioxidants, and has been known to fight viruses and slow aging. Green tea aids in weight loss, reduces "bad" cholesterol, boosts the immune system, and is also associated with the prevention of cancer. Green tea is widely used as a natural preservative in food and cosmetics. It even looks fresh and healthy! Green helps overweight people shed excess fat without side effects. It may help modulate calorie and fat burning through the sympathetic nervous system, the adrenal glands and specific nerve chemicals. Green tea shows fat-burning properties beyond those explained by its caffeine content.

Author: Richard A. Kogok I was pleasantly surprised by this tea. I am used to matchas from Uji, so this matcha from Shizuoka was a nice change. I wasn't expecting such a pronounce sweetness but it was sweet with a full mouth feel which was nice and with a somewhat "chewy" finish. Afterwards I did experience umami which was very enjoyable.
Did I like this tea, yes.
Would I recommend this tea, probably not. I have to admit, there are other matchas out there that are better, especially if you are not used to preparing matcha properly or how matcha is suppose to taste. This one takes a little more effort to get the proper foam consistency. Even if you make usucha (thin tea) it's a little too thin to get the foam and if you make koicha (thick tea) it gets a little gritty with still little foam.

Author: Natalie Wren I got this tea to make my own tea lattes, and it tastes great! I'm not an expert in matcha teas, but Tea Spot's is really bright in color, smells and tastes real fresh and sweet - not bitter like some others we've tried, and is priced right too :)

MATCHA SMOOTHIE
A healthy, filling, & delicious start to the day!
INGREDIENTS:
1/2 cup plain or vanilla yogurt
1 cup ice
2 cups soy milk (unsweetened for less calories)
2 teaspoons of matcha green tea powder
2 teaspoons of maple syrup (or to taste)
PREPARATION:
Add everything to a blender (adding the matcha last to avoid it sticking to the sides) and blend until smooth. Very refreshing! Single serving.
Optional: Add half of a frozen banana to the mix. It gives the smoothie a little bit more body and complements the flavor.
MATCHA ICED LATTE
Refreshing and simple! No blender needed.

1 teaspoon matcha green tea powder
2 1/2 cups hot water
1/2 cup milk or soy milk
4 teaspoons honey or agave (sweeten to taste)

GREEN TEA COOKIES
This recipe is from Chef Carol Wallack, owner of Chicago's Sola restaurant. We made it this past Christmas season and they were great!
Prep: 20 minutes
Cook: 12 minutes per batch
Makes: 6 dozen delicious cookies
INGREDIENTS:
1/2 cup each: semolina flour & all-purpose flour
1/4 cup sugar
1/3 teaspoon baking powder
Pinch of salt
3 tablespoons cold butter, cubed
1 tablespoon green tea leaves, finely chopped
1 ½ teaspoons matcha green tea powder
Grated zest of 1 lime
1/3 cup whipping cream
PREPARATION:
1. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Combine flours, sugar, baking powder and salt in the mixing bowl of a standing mixer. Add cold butter; beat just until the flour mixture is crumbly. Stir in tea, matcha and lime zest. Pour in cream; blend well.
2. Roll out the dough on floured surface to 1-inch thick. Cut into 1-inch circles with cookie cutter. Line a cookie sheet(s) with parchment paper. Place cookies on parchment. Bake until top is firm, 12 minutes per batch. Allow to cool.
