The Tea Spot Donates Over $20,000 of Loose Leaf Tea and Steepware® for Cancer Wellness in November

Red Orbit - November 24,2010

The Tea Spot's dedication to their 10% pledge directly affected Cancer survivors, patients, runners, gala attendees and donors across the nation. The Boulder-based loose leaf tea and teaware producer was able to make donations of all kinds, in&#45kind, this November, marking their largest monthly contribution since beginning their 10% Pledge For Cancer Wellness one year ago.

November 2010 marks the most generous month for The Tea Spot in the history of the 10% Pledge for Cancer Wellness. Continuing their promise to donate 10% of every sale in-kind, both gift bags and gift sets consisting of loose leaf tea and Steepware®, were received by organizations, hospitals, and foundations throughout the nation. The Tea Spot’s contributions were supportive of cancer and community wellness programs on national and local levels.

Cancer survivors along with their families and friends felt that support on November 6th, 2010, in Summit Cancer Solutions’ 5K run. The Summit’s 3rd annual 5K run took place in Downtown Denver. Fellow sponsors included Dick’s Sporting Goods, Einstein’s Bros. Bagels and The Bank of Denver. Over 300 gift bags were enthusiastically received by the race participants and cancer survivors. Each received a tin of Snowflakes loose white tea and the award winning Tuffy Tea Steeper to assist in their relaxation and rejuvenation after the race. The Tea Spot’s CEO, Maria Uspenski, explained “Snowflakes, one of our white teas, is especially effective in warding off diseases like cancer because of its high concentration of EGCG antioxidants.” Summit Cancer Solutions’ appreciative Executive Director, Therese Thompson, expressed that the organization was “very grateful for the generous donation of tea and Tuffys by The Tea Spot to the goody bags received by all participants in our 5K. The Tea Spot bags were beautiful!”

The following week, on November 12th, 2010 in New York City, The Tea Spot made another contribution, this time to the SASS Foundation for Medical Research Inc. SASS hosted their Annual Gala Dinner Dance at the Pierre Hotel to honor outstanding individuals. The Tea Spot’s Signature Tea Collection, valued at over $200, was placed in the silent auction to support one of the evening’s tributes, Sean Swarner, of Cancer Climber Association, for his incredible triumphs during and after two recoveries from cancer. Proceeds from the auction went to cancer research, patient education and patient care.

During Breast Cancer Awareness month in October, 2010, The Tea Spot’s “Steep it Pink” gift sets spawned matching contributions by The Tea Spot to Boulder Community Hospital’s breast cancer support groups. For every “Steep it Pink” gift set purchased in October, 2010, The Tea Spot matched that and donated to women on the road to recovery. The Tea Spot is making their matching donations to Boulder Community Hospital (BCH) this month.

All gifts were in support of The Tea Spot’s 10% Pledge, giving 10% of every sale as in&#45kind donations to cancer and community wellness programs. Active participation toward this pledge fuels the company's passion of maintaining the on-going wellness of cancer survivors and facilitating healthy habits to decrease cancer risks.
