The smoothest black tea in our collection, this single-origin organic tea is from Mount Wuyi, in Fujian China. From a region predominantly known for its oolongs, this rare black tea is picked for only a short time each year. Qu Hao’s full rich body is incredibly low in tannins with a natural note of chocolate, earning it the nickname “Black Silk”. The aroma is rich, with a delicate sweetness. The leaves are long, thin and elegant, and brew into a beautiful dark red liquor. You won’t want to miss out on the the silky smooth finish of Qu Hao Silk.

  • Black Tea is known to banish fatigue, stimulate mental powers, and raise energy levels. It has been shown to reduce stress hormone levels and acts as a nerve sedative, frequently relieving headaches. Black tea contains a number of vitamins considered essential for maintaining health, including Carotene, a precursor to vitamin A, has antioxidant and protective properties, Vitamin B1 and Panothenic Acid, Vitamin C and Vitamin B6.

Black Tea also contains antioxidants which may help to protect your body from the ravages of aging and environmental effects. Because they are allowed to ferment completely before drying, most black teas are especially rich in those polyphenols which have been shown to be effective against dementia in aging as well as AIDS related dementia. These compounds penetrate the blood brain barrier and have also been found to reduce blood cholesterol levels.

Black tea is known for its antiviral and antibacterial properties. It can be topically applied to cuts, bruises and burns, and is famous for its sunburn relief and has been shown to have a positive effect on preventing tooth decay and gum disease.

"Black silk" is right! This tea is so silky smooth. Perfect for mornings when I need a bit of a kick but still want something with some subtlety and complexity.—Zack Kelly
I like to make my own blends, but when I want to treat myself I have a cup of this delicious tea. —regina
Fragrantly woodsy, ever so slightly smoky. A traditional tea for easing into the morning... or relaxing at any time of day. The complex and richly evocative floral scent of the leaves is, unfortunately, lost in the brewing, with the flavor profile condensing down into something more like sweet earth and forest floor. Not a bad thing at all, just a promise left hanging. As I drink this, I think of a current in a river flowing past thickly forested banks. I like the heft of spice and smokiness of Keemun better, but this is nice if you want an unobtrusive brew that will fortify without taking over. Makes a reasonable second infusion that preserves the character and deep red color of the first. —Sophie
I had this tea with some sashimi and it was a perfect pair! —baronessblossom
Terrific tea!! Smooth, no astringency, and no lingering aftertaste. Brings memories of Lipton black mom gave me as a kid, but much more invigorating!! Recommended!!—Flip
Opening the package, I got a nice floral scent you don't normally expect from a black tea like assam or keemun. But steeping it at higher strengths that floral aspect doesn't come through in the tea itself. I'd say go for a low steep time, like 2-3 minutes. It's good for about 2 resteeps this way, so you get a lot of mileage from it.—Patrick
This is a wonderful smooth black tea with no bitterness. Russian Caravan is my usual go to but this is for the times I don't want the smoky. Love this tea.—Olivia
This one became a quick favorite for my husband and I, we drink it a lot. —Rebecca
I got a sample of this & a few other black teas in my order from the Tea Spot, & it won’t last long! I drank a cup this morning, complete with re-steeps, & I don’t know how to describe it! ~ The aroma & taste remind me somewhat of a Keemun, in that there is a little of that (very light) smoke & brown sugar essence. ~ The mouth feel is ridiculously smooth & creamy, almost like I’m drinking goatmilk, but thinner, like the purest water ever. ~ It’s bold, with almost a coffee-like background, a little chocolaty, mouth watering, & did I mention ‘smooth’? It’s as smooth as silk! Next time I get the tin… —Terri
Received this one as a sample. Not a favorite. It's not as smooth as I was anticipated, and seemed overall weak. I much prefer the Tea Spot's Assam black.—Tami Hannon
