San Francisco Chronicle - August 31,2011
Boulder’s philanthropic loose leaf tea company is staying true its mission of fostering health and wellness with the introduction of a tea gift set for Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. Their Tough in Teal cancer awareness gift set is helping bring attention to the issue while contributing to their ongoing 10% Pledge of cancer wellness donations. The Colorado Ovarian Cancer Alliance is honoring The Tea Spot as its sponsor of the month.
Supporters of Ovarian Cancer Awareness can "wear teal" in their tea this September. Boulder's philanthropic tea company is staying true its mission - to foster health and wellness by making loose leaf tea an everyday luxury - with the introduction of a tea gift set for Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. The Tea Spot is encouraging its fans to help raise awareness for this cause by giving the “Tough in Teal” gift set to the important women in their lives. This health-oriented gift set includes a tin of organic leaf tea and a teal Tuffy Tea Steeper, wrapped up in a teal gift bag, complete with loose tea steeping instructions - and as always 10% of each sale goes toward The Tea Spot’s cancer wellness donations.
The loose leaf tea featured in the “Tough in Teal” gift set is Blue Mountain Nilgiri. This single-estate tea, grown in the Blue Mountains of southern India, is 100% Organic and Fair Trade Certified™. It is a rich, smooth black tea with subtle notes of blackberry and honeysuckle. This loose leaf nilgiri brews into a very classic cup of hot black tea. It is also one of the most popular gourmet iced tea selections at The Tea Spot.
The second product that makes up the “Tough in Teal” tea gift is a turquoise Tuffy Tea Steeper. The Tuffy Steeper is The Tea Spot’s silicone tea infuser designed for travel, easy storage, and making loose tea to-go. This durable, foldable, reusable, loose leaf tea steeper is compatible with most mugs and many teapots. The Tuffy Tea Steeper has been featured on Dr. Oz’s “Hot List” show.
The "10% Pledge" of this woman owned and operated company is to donate 10% of every sale in-kind toward cancer and community wellness. “We do this to ensure a commitment to actively support the cause that fuels our passion: maintaining the ongoing wellness of cancer survivors and facilitating healthy habits to decrease cancer risks,” says The Tea Spot’s CEO, Maria Uspenski. To further encourage healthy tea drinking habits this Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, The Tea Spot will offer “Tough in Teal” for $19.95 at their online tea store. This represents more than 16% off retail pricing of the items that make up the tea gift set.
The Colorado Ovarian Cancer Alliance (COCA) is honoring The Tea Spot as its sponsor of the month this September. The Tea Spot's founder and CEO, Maria Uspenski, discovered the benefits of premium loose tea during her own recovery from ovarian cancer. The result is a business dedicated to promoting loose leaf tea for an improved quality of life. The Boulder-based tea company has shown itself to be true to a compassionate pledge. Uspenski proudly claimed, “our philosophy is that business and compassion can, and should, coexist.” And it’s this mission that earns respect and growth… in both business and generosity. Pep Torres, Executive Director of COCA states, "The Tea Spot’s on-going relationship with COCA helps raise awareness about ovarian cancer year round. Their partnership for September in our “Raise Awareness” campaign is just another way the company continues to give back to the community. We have so much respect and gratitude for Maria and her incredible team."
The Tea Spot was proud to be a sponsor of Jodi’s Race for Awareness in June, 2011. Jodi’s Race is the major fundraiser for COCA, whose mission is to promote awareness about ovarian cancer through advocacy, education and support. The event, which was inspired by Colorado native Jodi Brammeier, brings together survivors, families and friends to celebrate and to remember. The Tea Spot CEO, Maria Uspenski called it “a spectacular event with phenomenal intent.”
