The National Race To End Women’s Cancer in D.C.

Last Sunday, November 3rd, we partnered up with the National Race to End Women’s Cancer in Washington, DC as an in-kind race day sponsor. The Foundation for Women’s Cancer was founded in 1991 and is dedicated to funding research and training, and ensuring education and public awareness of gynecologic cancer prevention, early detection and optimal treatment.

As one of our largest donations to date, and in conjunction with our ongoing 10% Pledge to cancer wellness, we donated over 2100 Steep & Go™ cold brew tea filters and Cold Infusions™ loose tea packs to race participants. Luckily for me, I was also sent out to DC to participate on race day! I met so many fantastic people, and was absolutely inspired by the lively spirit, teamwork, love and unity everyone brought with them.

Two main highlights of the day for me were talking to one woman currently undergoing chemotherapy treatments. She told me she couldn’t wait to try out our cold brew tea kit because her cancer treatments cause water to take on a foul taste, and staying hydrated has been a struggle. She told me she is really excited to try a healthy tea option, free from sugar and preservatives. I also really enjoyed talking one self-declared “non tea person” into trying a taste of the Chill Out tea I was sampling at our booth. After one sip, she lit up and told me adamantly that she could “get used to THAT!”. It’s always fun watching a non-tea drinker try some quality tea for the first time, and falling in love on the spot. The belief is in the taste!

This was also my first visit to DC, and I had a blast exploring the city. I became an unofficial tour guide on the Metro system, grabbed a bourbon and bacon shake dubbed “The Ricky Bobby” at Ray’s Hell Burger, and visited the Vietnam Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, and White House. The city was decked out in all it’s breathtaking fall glory, and I thoroughly enjoyed walking the streets!

At the end of the weekend, I came back feeling so inspired by everyone I met in DC, particularly at the race. I am so proud to work for a company that cares enough about such a worthy cause, and who gives back in such meaningful ways. Our 10% Pledge is so important to each of us at The Tea Spot, in honor of our fearless CEO, and all those who have fought and who continue to fight. Drink up in good health! And if you get to DC, be sure you give that bourbon and bacon shake a try! ;)
