With Thanksgiving upon us, we’re packing our grocery bags full of stuff our bodies might not be used to enjoying on a daily basis. Here’s an easy way to indulge in a cocktail and still stay on top of your greens!
This cocktail design is a mash-up which turned out to be a hugely successful. We were celebrating a double birthday at The Tea Spot, and I wanted to make a tea cocktail which honored both celebrants – Hope, our resident designer, and veggie-grower extraordinaire; and Daniela, the life of our party, but who turns her little nose up at any drink I offer outside of prosecco or vodka. So the base had to have vodka & prosecco, and since my fav pic of Hope shows her relishing a basil plant, those had to be the base ingredients. Essentially, it’s a super-green (thanks to the organic matcha!) basil martini. Try it (always responsibly!) – and I hope you’ll love it too. I like to think that all the greenery and fresh lemon can almost pardon the sugar and alcohol.
Ninja Juice Craft Cocktail – Makes 6 servings
1/2 tsp matcha green tea powder
3/4 cup fresh juice
3/4 c basil simple syrup (1:1 water to sugar, bring to boil, add 1 basil leaf per oz of water, turn off heat, infuse 15 minutes, cool and chill)
1.25 cups vodka
1/4 cup sparkling water or Prosecco
Whisk the matcha into the lemon juice. Combine with other ingredients. Chill thoroughly. Serve in small martini glasses or champagne flutes.
